New Jimi Hendrix Gear Collection

Has anyone tried the new Jimi Hendrix Spark Gear Collection? I’m interested, but hesitant to purchase and download it this close to the release date.

I think it's a shame that they now use in-app purchases to extend your amp/pedal collection. I hope they are not going to offer too many other artists now. I'd love to hear of people who got the Jimi set. Is there a Univibe pedal among the goodies?

I received some positive comments on the Positive Grid Forum, bit the bullet and purchased the collection. The pedals include a “JH Legendary Vibe”; however I’m not real pedal savvy enough to know if it’s based on the Univibe. I have a screen capture; however I can’t figure out how to include it. My understanding is that if you update the Spark Amp, the collection gear is added to the hardware lists, but is locked unless you buy the collection through the Spark App.

On the positive side, both the Spark Amp update and the iOS App update went perfectly. The gear sets sound really good to me on my Les Paul with no adjustments necessary. Disappointed at the sounds with my HSS Strat; I’d hoped the collection, developed around two Strat Icons, would get me closer to a tone I could enjoy.

I just now bought the Hendrix pack and it's pretty cool. I personally like some of the distortion pedals quite a bit, as well as some of the tones made possible with it. 20 bucks is not really cheap but imagine you'd have to buy the real life pedals If I had to give a personal rating it would be Pedals 7/10, Amps 6/10, Tones 9/10. The pedals include a Wah, however with no actual physical pedal this is an auto-wah (albeit configurable) and therefore not as useful as a physical version.

I am still waiting for a Boss HM-1 pedal to be added so I can finally play Entombed/Bloodbath/Dismember songs the way they're supposed to sound!

Thanks for the list. I'm using your original "Spark Amp & Effects List” to learn how to dial in a tone on a recording. It's been very helpful!

I just bought the Hendrix package as well, mostly because I really like octave fuzz, so of course that was the first thing I tried. Unfortunately, no matter what guitar/pickup/tone control setting combo I used, I just couldn't get anything resembling what I get from my Danelectro French Toast octave fuzz. I watched a few videos on the actual Octavia fuzz, and it seems the octaving is not as "in your face" as the French Toast (and presumably its grandaddy, the Foxx Tone Machine). Still, no matter what I threw at it - Cort strat clone with single coils, Epiphone SG with humbuckers, Squier Mustang with humbuckers.... none of them produced even a hint of the octaving sound I was hoping for.
